Environmental Surveys

Following the preparation of a report for the Phase 1 Ecology Survey in mid-2003, surveys were undertaken to determine the archaeology of the area, the landscape and land use and the presence of bats, badgers, reptiles and breeding birds. The surveys for breeding birds, bats and reptiles are now complete and reports are being compiled. The survey for the presence of badger habitats was completed in November 2003.

A desk study of the local archaeology has been undertaken along with a walkover and a geophysical survey. The geophysical survey identified the presence of possible items of archaeological significance on the line of the new road and we have commissioned a team to excavate trenches to determine the nature of these finds. These exploratory holes were carried out in November 2003 and no significant finds were noted.
