The Public Consultation Period The Public Consultation ran from October 7th 1999 to November 30th 1999. However, late responses up to and including February 2000 were taken into consideration and included in the consultation assessment. The Scope of the Public Consultation Process The public consultation process was initiated with a leaflet distribution to 50,000 homes in and around the High Wycombe and Marlow areas using the local free newspaper. This was supported by a poster campaign and media coverage. Additional posters, leaflets and consultation documents were made available to local and trunk road traffic at filling stations on the main roads into High Wycombe and the motorway service areas on the M40 between the M25 and Oxford. The coverage was as far reaching as London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Reading and Maidenhead. However, approximately 90% of all responses came from within the High Wycombe and Marlow areas. Public Exhibition Venues The exhibitions were planned to inform members of the public and interested parties about the Handy Cross Integrated Transport Study, the proposed package of measures and to encourage comment and critical assessment for each element of the package. Public exhibitions were arranged for venues close to Handy Cross and in High Wycombe town centre to enable as many people as possible to meet the consultants and to offer their responses. In addition to public exhibitions the consultants carried out presentations to parish and town councils, Members of Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council as well as local business organisations. This gave representatives of community organisations throughout the area an opportunity to voice their concerns. All comments were incorporated into further analysis of Handy Cross junction and the proposed package of measures was refined accordingly. Conclusions The angencies involved took onboard the majority of responses from this process and included them in the final report. |
