The following key elements from the White Paper

‘A New Deal for Transport: Better for Everyone’,

underpin the output of the study:

  • integrating the proposed measures for Handy Cross with Local Transport Plans;
  • providing a better interchange;
  • tackling this pinch point;
  • providing better facilities for public transport;
  • protecting the urban and rural environments, and
  • providing local and trunk road users with better safety and security facilities.

The adopted Buckinghamshire County Structure Plan (March 1996) provides a basis for the Local Plan. It identifies that the High Wycombe urban area is a strategic growth area. The proposed level of growth is suppressed due to the many constraints that are imposed on the town.

The Wycombe Transport Strategy aims to develop a better transport system to tackle the problems of traffic congestion and pollution. The details of the strategy are still evolving. The measures proposed through the Handy Cross Package have a synergy with the Wycombe Transport Strategy.
